Pumpkin party

We don't celebrate Halloween, but we do like pumpkins. We have carved pumpkins before, but never like this. Caitlyn and I went to a pumpkin-carving party and it was so neat. Our friends Lisa and Rayonna really know how to carve a pumpkin! They do it every year and have patterns and little tools and everything. So we learned how to transfer a pattern on to the pumpkin, instead of just going at it with a knife :-), and ended up with a very cool picture. Don't you agree?

Kelsey's Letter

I don't know why, but I just loved this note. Kelsey asked if she could e-mail Bill, and wrote this note all by herself. I was available for spelling help at the beginning, but not at the end :-). She spent about an hour writing it, and even made it send in bright pink and purple.

(My note - Bill had tried to drain a sore on Kelsey's foot the night before and Sweetie is our dog.)

Watch for this face!

Kelsey is excited! Last night she got a special part in Prince Caspian. I won't tell what it is, because she wants it to be a surprise, but it involves this face:

100th post! (Sort of)

Lately I have seen several people do cool things for their 100th post. However, I missed my 100th post without even noticing. BUT this is my 101st post AND the 100th post of 2008! So, I am going to copy some creative bloggers who tell 100 things about themselves. However, I am not quite that interesting, so I'm splitting the 100 among our family. Here goes...

Cindy
1. I am a total Coke addict. And hypocrite. I won't let my kids drink it because it is so unhealthy, but I have it all the time.
2. I read every day. Always.
3. I made straight A's every report card through middle school and was WAY too concerned about it.
4. My mom was a totally organized and together homemaker. I had NO idea how much work it takes until I had my own home.
5. Allergy pills totally put me to sleep. I won't take them unless I am ready for bed.
6. I am very self-conscious. I don't like to do anything where I have to stand up in front of people or speak in front of a group. I'll talk your ear off one-on-one, though :-).
7. I spent a month in Sweden on an exchange program when I was in high school.
8. I grind my own flour (with a wheat grinder, not by hand) and have for years.
9. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE being a mom and homeschooling. I can't imagine doing anything else.
10. My best friends now are the same ones I had in middle school, with one addition.
11. I am an e-mail addict.
12. I LOVE my digital camera and take lots and lots of pictures. I do NOT like having my picture made, ever!
13. I was a major UT fan (Go Vols! - loved Willie Gault) since middle school. I still consider myself one, but don't keep up with them any more.
14. I have a degree in early childhood education, with a minor in psychology.
15. I was never into ballet or dance growing up and never expected to have girly dancers of my own, but love it!
16. I wear socks with holes in them, which drives my husband crazy. But hey, the shoes cover the holes, so they still work.
17. I love to sleep in a cold room. Even in the winter I close our door and crack the window at night.
18. It really bugs me when signs use incorrect grammar or punctuation. I have passed this trait on to Caitlyn.
19. I am very picky (AKA weird) about drinking water. It must be very cold and I taste differences from different water companies. I don't like our tap water at home and won't drink it.
20. I need to get off the computer and do something else this morning!

Bill...
1. is the youngest of 5 children. He has 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
2. was attacked by a cat (!) when he was younger and still has scars from it. He avoided cats after that until he married someone who came with a cat :-).
3. loves to sleep and can fall asleep anytime, anywhere.
4. was 19 when we met. I was 16. My girls are going to be waaaaaaaay older.
5. listens to Rush Limbaugh in the car.
6. once went fishing in a puddle with a stick and a paper clip. How cute.
7. still likes to fish.
8. once asked, "I wonder what Ralph think as he walks around, sniffing of the grass," which Caitlyn and I found hilarious.
9. always felt guilty for hitting his brother with an ice ball when they were kids, until about 6 weeks ago when he was reminded that he did it because his brother was trying to squash him with a giant snowball. Guilt relieved!
10. did his best to maim himself as a child, falling off walls, riding a goat, wrecking his bike, etc., succeeding in getting many injuries and somehow even a nail through his tongue! He still has that scar, too. Ugh.
11. would like to travel out west for several weeks.
12. buys me new socks for Christmas every year (see #16 above.)
13. leaves his shoes all over the house, precipitating a contest of who puts away the most shoes (Keegan is in the lead at the moment.)
14. eats pickles.
15. drives usually 2-8 hours each day for work.
16. likes country (AKA as "twangy") music.
17. can never (OK, rarely) beat Caitlyn or me in Racko.
18. likes looong, hot showers.
19. really does not like to walk the dog.
20. could not care less if signs use incorrect grammar or punctuation (see # 18 above), and can't understand why anyone else would care, either.

Caitlyn...
1. loves to read and dance. She started both when she was 3 and has never stopped. (If you have read this blog before, you probably already know these :-).
2. doesn't sleep in the car. Even if we are driving very late or early.
3. is very shy/slow to get to know people, but loves performing on stage. Seems like such a contrast.
4. is extremely quiet if you don't know her well, but not so quiet once she knows you :-).
5. choreographs shows and dances in her spare time.
6. likes to knit and crochet.
7. tends to have a few, close friends.
8. used to think the song "Kumba-ya, Lord" was about our dog, Koomba, and wondered why there wasn't a "Ralphie-ya" song for our dog, Ralph.
9. did not enjoy playing games for many years because someone had to lose.
10. was on an exact schedule when she was a baby - ate every 3 hours, slept 7:00pm to 7:00am every day. I thought it was because I was such a together, organized mom until Keegan came along and blew that theory all to pieces!
11. used to wear pink, fouffy dresses every day.
12. is scared of big dogs, with the exception of our dog, Ralph, who scares other people instead.
13. likes to keep up with the blog. She is probably my most faithful reader :-).
14. used to be allergic to chocolate, and have broccoli as her favorite food. Unfortunately, she outgrew both of these things!
15. is still friends with her very first real friend. They met before they were even 2.
16. saves her money a lot. She will see things she likes and want to buy them, but not think they are worth the price (her mom usually feels the same way :-).
17. can put her own hair into a bun in about 10 seconds. She used to love to have me fix her hair and would even bring me pictures of things to try. Now she likes quick, easy, and independent :-(.
18. likes Michael Card's music.
19. wanted a "Thomas Kincaide - type picture" for her room when we decorated it 3 1/2 years ago.
20. sunburns more easily than anyone you have ever met in your entire life!

Keegan...
1. LOVES animals - dogs, cats, horses - she loves all of them.
2. had perfect attendance at Sunday School last year. She adores her Sunday School teachers.
3. would like to have a petting zoo with 999,000 animals when she grows up.
4. has a VERY tender heart. She has kind of a boisterous personality, so it is not obvious, but it is very true.
5. likes oatmeal crunch and cinnamon rolls as her favorite breakfast foods.
6. is very socially oriented. She enjoys being with her friends and being part of a group.
7. was not happy with ANYONE except me when she was a baby, and always wanted to be held.
8. still remembers and misses her Papaw, who died when she was only 3.
9. has her own dog, Sweetie.
10. used to dump her bowl (on herself, the floor, someone else, it didn't matter) when she was through eating.
11. feels things strongly. If she is happy or sad, you can tell.
12. really likes candy, gum, and junk food, much to her mother's dismay!
13. is into horses, crafts, writing, Bella Sara cards, Disney Princesses, and puppies.
14. "glues" herself to people she likes so she won't have to leave them. (Doesn't work, she still has to come home with me :-).
15. loved her pacifiers. Finally, when she was 5, I was afraid they would damage her teeth, so we bought them from her (she liked money, too) AND sent some to our friends in Africa so someone would still use them.
16. her favorite holidays are 1st - Christmas; 2nd - Easter; 3rd - Valentine's Day; 4th - a tie between her birthday and St. Patrick's Day.
17. has a special "Kook voice" she uses when playing with her stuffed animal, Kook.
18. really enjoys spending money, whether she is buying things for herself or someone else.
19. likes to hang laundry on the line as one of her chores.
20. laughs a lot. It's contagious.

Kelsey...
1. goes through stages where she wants to be in shows and when she doesn't "want people to look at me." I understand the second much better than the first :-).
2. weighed only 3 pounds, 1 ounce when she was born.
3. likes to be silly and make us laugh.
4. loves to have a snuggle night with Mommy and Daddy.
5. used to call horses "wasies."
6. used to have a bad dream about our coffee table called the "scary table dream."
7. is learning to knit.
8. really wants to go back to Washington D.C.
9. wanted Bitty Twins (expensive dolls from American Girl) for over 2 years before I ordered them for Christmas last year. A couple of days before Christmas she said, "I still like Bitty Twins, but don't know if they are really worth that much money." Now her favorite doll is a plastic gymnastics doll named Super Star Suzie.
10. is the first person in our house to get up most mornings.
11. has "Mary Poppins" as her favorite movie.
12. is "not a big fan of Hello Kitty."
13. loves to play board games.
14. explained the word "tutor," by holding her hand to her mouth like a horn and saying, "toot, toot, toot-er!" which sent us all collapsing into uncontrollable gales of laughter.
15. loves fruit.
16. is determined that her name is not "Petunia," even though I like to call her that.
17. likes Mott's gummy fruits as her favorite snack.
18. likes to roll Daddy out of bed in the mornings.
19. wears leotards about 5X/ week (as do Caitlyn and Keegan), either at dance or gymnastics, or at home.
20. still loves to be with her Mommy (my favorite, of course :-)

Thanks for reading the blog and giving me an excuse to write 100 posts!!!

FFF- Octoberfest

While Caitlyn and I were at an "Oz" rehearsal, Bill, Keegan, and Kelsey went with a church group to a pumpkin patch.
Horseback riding was fun. Especially for Keegan, who is horse-crazy at the moment.
And the main attraction - Pupmkins!
The final products
Kelsey painted a day scene on one side and a night scene on the other so she could turn it around each day :-).
Keegan decorated with smiley faces, lollipops, and glitter paint.

She painted the stem as a hat for the big smiley face :-).
Have a happy fall!

Kelsey Quote

Kelsey thinks it is funny to pretend that she doesn't know Bill. So, when we got home last night, she came in and greeted him with, "Well, hello stranger. Did you just happen to wander into our house?"

Keegan Quote

About a lady we know "Just looking at Miss Louise, you would never think she is old enough to have grandchildren. She must have made good choices about eating healthy foods and exercising."
She is absolutely right :-).
