More school days

Caitlyn, Keegan, and Kelsey were playing school with some dolls. With Kelsey playing, that always involves one very naughty child. Here are a couple of clips from their conversations that cracked me up :).

Kelsey girl doll, "EEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeek! There is a snake in my lunchbox!"

Caitlyn teacher doll, calmly, "Well, it's not a poisonous one."

and

Keegan teacher doll: Bryson (the naughty one), you may sit down.

Then again: Bryson, you may sit down.

Caitlyn doll whispers to Bryson: She means you must sit down.

Finally,

Kelsey, "And then he said in a very high, squeaky voice like this..."

School days

Recently, the girls and I spent a day the 1800's at a one room schoolhouse.
(I feel like I have trying to get these pictures to load since 1800!)
It was a very neat experience as the girls got to a sample a typical school day in the 1800's.
They had spelling, geography, ciphring, art, writing, and recess.
And all of the kids looked so cute in their old fashioned clothes :)

Writing with a quill pen is a real challenge!

Beauty and the Beast rehearsals

It is hard to believe I have gone this long without posting play pictures. I will remedy that situation immediately ;). Rehearsals are going great for Beauty and the Beast. Caitlyn has switched from being a fork to a spoon, and Keegan is still a napkin. I love this director who manages to love all the children, motivate them, and control them, all at the same time! This isn't a kid show, most of the cast are older, and my girls have enjoyed watching the adults rehearse when they are done with their own practices. It is going to be a super show and certainly is being a great experience for Caitlyn and Keegan!

Napkins - ooh, la, la!

My spoon, practicing the dance.
Practicing "Be Our Guest." Caitlyn is in the center.

This is from the battle scene in the castle.

It looks SO chaotic when you watch it (and it is!), but every person is choreographed.
Caitlyn dances across the stage with a bad guy chasing her, then kicks him with a ballet kick.
This is so funny to me because Caitlyn has never kicked anyone in her entire life.
This is her leaping on to the stage.
Obviously. :-)
Caitlyn is very happy she gets to be in the battle.
Since the stage is so crowded already, all of the kids aren't in this scene.
So she is doubly happy - once because she is in the scene at all, and second, because she gets to dance in it!

Then came the napkins.

Initially, there weren't going to be napkins in the battle.
Keegan really, really, REALLY wanted to be in this scene. Then last week, napkins got added!
Happy, happy Keegan.
She got a cool part, too. Is is hilarious. Keegan gets to ride on the back of this poor bad guy.
(That cutie sitting in the cart is Chip.)

Every time he crosses the stage he has more napkins hanging on him until he is covered.
Finally, he collapses.
It was so fun to watch this scene be put together. And the boy who piggy backs Keegan was so pleasant and patient. His role really is a challenge. He actually fell not long after I took that middle picture. Keegan flew right over his head onto the stage. Thankfully, neither of them was hurt. But the director did decide to take the napkins off his feet and have them pull on his clothes, instead :-).

Aw, they're so cute :-)
Caitlyn and Keegan are both wearing their tie-dyed t-shirts from Keegan's party, btw.

Makes a mom feel good.

The hills are alive....

With the sounds of an excited girl!!!

After being so disappointed about not being cast in "Beauty and the Beast", Kelsey has received some news that made her day. Week. Month :-).

Kelsey made a spur of the moment decision to audition for "The Sound of Music." When she initially heard about the audition, just the day before it, she wasn't especially excited about it. Neither was I. I had a very hard time seeing her feelings get hurt from B & the B and was not anxious for a repeat. So she wasn't going to audition. Fine. Life continued uninterrupted. Then she started wanting more and more to go try out. I was still unsure. Finally, about an hour before the audition started, we decided to go. And Kelsey got cast as the understudy for Gretyl (the youngest von Trapp!) Yea! Woo, hoo! Yippee for Kelsey! She is super excited and can't wait to start rehearsing. She especially wants to sing, "So Long, Farewell," and to say that her finger got bitten :-).

I am so happy for her and she is absolutely overjoyed. We were out Friday and she said, "Maybe when we get home they will have called and say I have a practice tonite!" Didn't happen, but it sure was cute :).
